Richard G. Newell passed away on Thursday May 8, 2025, in Vernon Texas.

Funeral services will be held Monday May 12, 2025, at 10:00am at the Western Trail Cowboy Church with Rev. Luke Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Richard G. Newell was born on April 30, 1938, in Wilbarger County, Texas, to Dan N. and Lila M. Newell. He was raised on the family farm in the Northside community, where he developed a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for agriculture. During his school years at Northside, Richard was active in sports and the FFA program, graduating with the Class of 1957.Following high school, Richard dedicated more than 50 years to farming in the Lockett and Five-In-One communities. He took great pride in his work and earned a reputation for producing high-quality alfalfa, cotton, and wheat. His passion for agriculture extended to his children, who were involved in the Lockett 4-H Club and showed steers across Texas.

Richard was first married to Mary Lynn McNairy of the Lockett community. He later married Cheryl Dosier of Iowa Park, Texas. Richard and Cheryl shared over 30 years of marriage, making their home in Lockett. They adopted Buster, an Australian Shepherd, who accompanied Richard everywhere he went.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Robert N. Newell, Gary A. Newell, and Barbara A. Newell. Richard leaves behind his devoted wife Cheryl, along with his children: Lisa K. Newell of Vernon; Mike N. (Marion) Newell of Vernon; James E. (Lisa) Newell of Canton, Oklahoma; Marci A. Hyde of Burlington, Oklahoma; and Jason T. (Sheila) Watkins of Enid, Oklahoma.

Richard and Cheryl are Papa and MeMe to 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. They are members of the Western Trail Cowboy Church.

Visitation will be held on Sunday May 11, 2025, from 5-8pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
