Rosie Evalina Reece-Sims was born as the second child to the late Elder John L. and Lula Mae Russell-Reece. She moved to Vernon, Texas, in October of 1950.
Rosie attended Booker T. Washington School, where she graduated in 1961 during her junior year as the salutatorian. During her high school years, she advanced to state competition in track, Interscholastic Spelling, and Essay Writing. She placed second in her heat in track, second in spelling, and second in essay writing, earning first place at district and second place at State in track, spelling, and essay writing.
Rosie married Veltee Hearne on July 9, 1961, who preceded her in death on October 17, 1969. She later married Aldean (A.D.) Sims on June 10, 1970, who preceded her in death on August 16, 2006.
She was employed by Vernon Manufacturing Company for eight years and later retired from North Texas State Hospital after 29 years and 7 months of dedicated service as a Therapist Technician V in the Recreation Department.
Rosie joined New Hope Baptist Church on May 28, 1972, where she remained a faithful member for 54 years. During her tenure, she served in many capacities, including President of Mission II, Chairperson of the Finance Committee, President of the Choir, Pastor's Aide President, Church Mother on the Mother Board, and Church Clerk.
Rosie was preceded in death by one sister, Claudia Ruth Reece-Walker of Arlington, Texas, on January 5, 2007; and two brothers, Robert Lee Reece of Dallas, Texas, on January 11, 1998, and Billie Cleve Reece of Houston, Texas, on November 3, 2005.
She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter and three sons: Darlene (Stevie) McGregor of Vernon, Texas; James Earl (Ester) Reece of Savannah, Georgia; Aldean (Cindy) Sims, Jr. of Vernon, Texas; and Jonathan Edward Sims of Vernon, Texas. She is also survived by four sisters, Pearl Mock of Mansfield, Texas, Ester Reece of Euless, Texas, Mary (James) Elliott of Irving, Texas, and Suzanne Clegg of Midlothian, Texas; and six brothers, Johnnie Reece of Vernon, Texas, Clarence (Phyllis) Reece of Fort Worth, Texas, John (Ophelia) Reece of Houston, Texas, Donnie Reece of Garland, Texas, Jimmy (Donna) Reece of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Lonnie Wayne (Vickie) Reece of San Antonio, Texas.
She also leaves behind nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, fifty-one nieces and nephews, ninety-one great-nieces and nephews, and twenty-one-plus great-great-nieces and nephews. She is further survived by a special cousin, Mack Lewis, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 am at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Early Williams and Pastor E.J. Tyson officiating. Burial will follow Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.
