Salvador Castorena Bernal, 64 of Vernon, Texas entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Wichita Falls, TX.
Salvador was born on Sunday December 25, 1960, in Tepezala, Aguascalientes, Mexico. He was the son of the late Luis Bernal, and Francisca Castorena Reyes. He married the love of his life, Dalia Luna on December 5,1981, in Lockney, TX. While in Lockney, Salvador worked at Excel meat market for 15 years. He was a member at Primera Iglesia Bautista where he was ordained a deacon on March 25th, 1984. Salvador felt God's calling to preach the word of God and was ordained to the ministry on June 14, 1998. He was ordained as a Pastor on February 27th, 2000, at Iglesia Bautista "La Trinidad" Church in Quitaque, TX, where he served for 8 years. While in Quitaque, he was employed by Valley School as maintenance. Salvador moved with his family to Vernon where he began to work at Tyson, INC in production, where he was employed till the day of his death. Salvador and family moved to Altus, Oklahoma where he served as pastor to Primera Iglesia Bautista, Altus, Oklahoma for 6 years. Salvador became a pastor for Primera Iglesia Lockney, TX in 2022 till the day of death.
Salvador's hobbies were cooking out for his family and friends. He was an avid baseball card and coin collector. His favorite sports teams were the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed spending quality time with his children during games nights. He was always happy, singing praises to the Lord. Salvador loved to have fellowship with anyone that allowed him to give him time to talk about the love and salvation of Jesus Christ.
Salvador is survived by his wife, Dalia Bernal, of the home: three daughters, Angelica Salazar & husband Tony Salazar, Lucy Hernandez, and Cathy Bernal; two sons Salvador Bernal Jr & wife Raquel Bernal and Caleb Bernal. He had 10 grandchildren, Brenda, Bethany, John Nathan, Alexia, Aidan, Adam, Aryssa, Evalyn, Emma, and Ariella: three great-grandchildren.
Salvador also leaves behind his mother, Francisca Reyes, and 9 siblings: San Juana Silva, Ricardo Bernal, Javier Bernal, Jorge Bernal, Patricia Reyes, Elisa Perez, Lourdes Ascencio, Rosio Morales, and Cecilia Alvarado. He also has 12 brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
Salvador Bernal was preceded in death by his father, Luis Bernal, his brother Jose Luis Bernal and granddaughter, Taya Marie Davis.
His memory will live in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. His legacy of love, kindness and dedication to his family will continue to inspire and be cherished by all those who remain. He will be deeply missed but his love and memories will forever live with us.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 5pm at Templo Ebenezer, Vernon, TX. A service will be held from 6-8pm.
Salvador will then be transported to Lockney, TX. A viewing service will be held at Primera Iglesia Bautista at 6pm on January 23, 2025.
Funeral services will be on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1pm at Primera Iglesia Bautista, Lockney, TX. Burial will follow at the Lockney Cemetery.
