Scherlene Barton Wattenbarger, 79 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday August 12, 2026, at Eastview Cemetery, under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Scherlene was born January 28, 1947, she was the 2nd of seven children born to the late Willard Barton and the late Dorothy Rains Barton. Scherlene married James “Heavy” Wattenbarger on November 13, 1964, in Vernon, Texas.

Scherlene worked for Vernon Manufacturing Co. “Pants Factory” Nocona Boot Manufacturing Co., where she got the nickname “Miss Hamburger”.She was also a cook at Hillcrest Country Club for many years.

Scherlene is survived by her two daughters Debbie Florez (Nick) of Vernon, Texas and Susie Wiest of Vernon Texas. Sherlene also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Sabrina Felton, Blake Downes (Soraya), Crystal Cavaness (Clayton), Dalton Weist (Nyeshia), Story Florez, Dallon Florez and Erika Florez. Twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Along with four sisters and one brother.

Scherlene is preceded in death by her parents Willard and Dorothy Barton, her husband James “Heavy” Wattenbarger and one brother.

The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 1801 Houston St., Vernon, Texas.
