Sharon
Harvel
Jun 30, 1935 — Feb 8, 2025
Sharon Harvel, 89, passed away peacefully Feb 8, 2025, in Steamboat, Colorado. Sharon was born in Bryan, Texas on June 30, 1935. She was the daughter of Bud and Velma Harvel. She graduated as the valedictorian at Vernon High School class of 1953. She continued her education at University of Texas in Austin and finished at Goucher College in Maryland. She is survived by daughter Faith Byrum and son in law Erik Byrum and grandson Micah Byrum, son Gordon Keith Norwood Jr., granddaughter Katherine Norwurtz and husband John Wurtz, granddaughter Jessica Norwood Raia and Stephan Raia, son Steven Wayne Norwood, ex-husband Robert "Bob" Garner, brother Kermit Harvel and niece Wendy Harvel and family.
Sharon in her early years worked at Harvard in the genetics lab studying fruit flies and was a computer analyst. Sharon helped to manage a nutrition and yoga retreat in Glouster, Massachusetts at the New England Conservatory of Health in the 1970s. In 1975 she moved to Boulder, Colorado and was a homemaker.
Sharon showed so much kindness and gratitude to others, her life was devoted to her family, Jesus and focusing on healthy foods and lifestyle. She was often offering fresh carrot juice to people. When she entered a room, she could talk to anyone and make them feel welcomed. Her smile and laughter were contagious. Although she did not have a lot of material things she gave her kindness and love to all around her. Sharon often spent her time praying for people or giving much needed massages, as well as spending time with the homeless and volunteering. As a devoted and proud Mom, she was often cheering her daughter at various local and national running races. Everyone could feel her presence as she would yell "go long legs" and smile at all the runners. She loved being outside in the sunshine and walking along the Boulder Creek path. For Sharon everyday was "Happy New Year."
