Shirley Goodrum, 84 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brooks Kimmey and Mr. Mike Klappenbach officiating.  Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Shirley was born Monday, April 17, 1939 in Vernon, Texas. She was the daughter of the late G. W. "Jack" Rodgers and the late Wilma Burdette Rodgers. She married Donald Goodrum on February 13, 1960 in Vernon, Texas. Shirley attended Midwestern State University, and worked for Vernon ISD for thirty-three years.  She was a Teacher's Reading Aide and taught many students to read. She then worked in the school's Attendance Office. Prior to working for the school district, Shirley worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and West Texas Utilities. She also used her musical talent by playing the piano at Lockett Baptist Church for many years.  Shirley served on the Board of Directors for Meals On Wheels and the USSV.  She was a member of the Vernon Beautification Committee and the D. L. Green Park Committee.  She was also a member of the Yamparika Club, Junior Service League, and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Don Goodrum of the home; one son, Kevin Goodrum & wife Leslie of Midland, Texas; one daughter, Donna Hager & husband Michael of Vernon, Texas; one brother, Ron Rodgers of Kemp, Texas; four grandchildren, Austin Hager & wife Chelsea, Ryan Goodrum, Bailey Goodrum, and Lauren Hager, and two great grandchildren, Chloe Hager and Collins Hager. Shirley also leaves behind her caregiver, Ana Hernandez.

Shirley is preceded in death by her brother, Don Rodgers.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.
