Obituary

Stuart Wayne Bagley, 54, of Vernon, Texas made his transition November 2, 2022, in Electra, Texas with his family by his side. Stuart was born January 20, 1968 to Randall Bagley and Peggy Cooper Bagley in Garland, Texas.

Stuart graduated from Harmony High School, Big Sandy, Texas in 1986. After high school, he followed many different career paths. He planted pine saplings which grew into a forest in East Texas, carried on a family tradition while working as an electrician and various construction projects including the power plant in Oklaunion. He joined a friend in Louisiana as an insurance adjuster after Hurricane Rita but soon changed paths again knowing he'd never be able to get families the compensation he felt they deserved. His final and favorite career was as a CDL driver for local gasoline deliveries in Longview, Texas.

Prior to brain cancer, he enjoyed memorable trips with friends and family to Austin, Galveston, and Fredericksburg, Texas, Niagara Falls, Chicago, Vicksburg, Mississippi, Colorado and Jamaica. A movie aficionado, Stuart remembered the names of every actor, director and even the gaffer of most movies he ever watched. He was a lifetime fan of the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. He also loved his Ford F-150.

After a Grade Ill anaplastic oligodendroglioma brain tumor diagnosis during the summer of 2010, Stuart moved to the Houston area for treatment from Dr. Alfred Yung at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Following two brain resections, 18 months of chemotherapy and 30 radiation treatments, Stuart moved to Vernon, Texas to be near family. Defying statistics, he enjoyed the next 10 years cancer free. A minor vehicle accident Friday, August 13, 2021 revealed his second brain tumor recurrence. He returned to MD Anderson for 28 additional radiation treatments finishing last December.

He wasn't who he used to be, but he was much loved and he still loved his friends and family with all his gentle giant heart.

Stuart is survived by his mother, Peggy Cooper of Electra, Texas, stepmother, Pam Bagley of Vernon, Texas, sister, Heather Bagley of Electra, Texas, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and lifelong friend (brother), Paul Loftis of Gilmer, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Randall Bagley, brother, Joseph Kyle Bee Bagley, paternal grandparents, Loyd and Icie Mae Shipman Bagley, and maternal grandparents, William Floyd (Jimmy) Cooper and Mary Faye Miller Cooper Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff of Solaris Hospice, Electra Healthcare Center, Electra Hospital, Electra Tri-Med Ambulance, Vernon EMS, High Plains and MD Anderson for providing Stuart with such loving care during his most challenging days.

To honor his wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Arrangements are under the care of  Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon, Texas.
