Obituary

Virginia Ray Chavis Quintero, 89 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in Vernon, Texas.

Mass will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10:00 am at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church with Father Phil Petta officiating. Burial will follow at Gilliland Cemetery in Gilliland, Texas under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Virginia was born Wednesday, May 13, 1936, in Foreman, Arkansas. She was one of six children, four girls and two boys of Pete and Annie Chavis. Her family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas when Virginia was a baby. She attended high school at Wichita Falls High and then graduated as a License Vocational Nurse from Crowell Nursing School.  Virginia married M.A. "Moose" Quintero on June 12, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas. After marriage the couple moved to Gilliland, Texas where she loved her home on a farm. She always considered Gilliland her home. In the mid 1970's they moved to Vernon. Virginia worked as an LVN for twenty years at the North Texas State Hospital at both the Vernon and Wichita Falls campuses.  She also worked for ten years at the Vernon Care Center. Virginia loved caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they were little. Her kitchen was lunch central for her granddaughters, great grandsons, and their friends while they were in high school. She was a member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church.

Virginia is survived by her son, John Quintero & wife Angie, her daughter, Melinda Quintero, six grandchildren, Michelle & John Urquizo, Angela & Mike Jerner, Christy Robertson, Kelli & Jeremy Winn, Lindsay & Jarrod David, and Allison Quisenberry, and six great grandchildren, Brandon & Jamie Urquizo, Tristan & Brook Urquizo, Jaxon Urquizo, Jayme Robertson, Charlie David, and Chandler David. Virginia also leaves behind two great-great grandchildren, Brewer Urquizo and Baker Urquizo.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Pete & Annie Chavis, her husband, M.A. Quintero, her sisters, Mildred Quintero and Jean Lynch, and her brothers, Pete Chavis Jr. and Fred "Buddy" Chavis.

Rosary will be on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 6:30 pm at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Vernon Boys & Girls Club .
