Walter H Krieg, Sr., 93 of Vernon, Texas passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on May 25, 2023.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 31, 2023 at 10:00am at the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Mike Klappenbach officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Walter was born Sunday, February 2, 1930 (Ground Hog Day), during a winter storm on the family farm in the Lockett community, he was the son of the late Arthur Krieg and the late Olga Koch Krieg. Walter married Sue Alice Reynolds in 1952 at Peace Lutheran Church in Lockett, Texas, they had three children Cindy Krieg Schiwart and husband Mark of Vernon, TX, Walter H. Krieg, Jr. and wife Tara of Carrollton, TX. and Gary W. Krieg and wife Toni of Vernon, TX. He later married Marggie Cox Coston in 1971, she passed away in 2019. They had fifteen grandchildren together and numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. Walter is also survived by three sisters Irene Jackson and husband Marvin of Amarillo, TX. Ruth Massey and husband James of Lake of the Pines, TX. and Alice Guest and her late husband Albert of Altus, OK.

Walter often recalled fun times with his many cousins, relatives and friends, who lived on nearby farms in Lockett. He graduated from Lockett High School in 1948. He maintained contact with his high school friends at annual class reunions for many years. He worked as a land surveyor from Texas to Montana. He volunteered for National Guard in Texas and Montana and eventually was drafted by "Harry Truman" and served in the U.S. Army from 1952- 1954, in the US Army Corp of Engineers and was shipped to R.A.F. Chelveston Airbase in England, following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. They constructed landing strips for military aircraft during the Korean War. As Walter explained, " Army men were compelled to stay in the active roll of the military, because of the cold war with Russia". He was discharged at the end of 1960 with a total of twelve years of military service. Walter had stated " I was never a hero, but I served my country well." Walter was Co-Owner of Wilbarger Auto Service and Parts Store with his business partner Gene Gunn. He later worked in maintenance/motor pool at North Texas State Hospital. He learned farming with his father and continued to enjoy this passion throughout his life. He and Marggie enjoyed traveling together and Walter maintained contact with his Army friends at reunions at various locations across the United States. Everyone who knew Walter was aware of his enjoyment of fellowship and his love for playing dominos.

Walter is preceded in death by his wife Marggie Krieg, his parents T. Arthur Krieg and Olga Krieg, two sisters Gladys Krieg and Kathryn Krieg Benedix, and four brothers Raymond Krieg, Alvin Krieg, Harvey Krieg and Billy Gene Krieg.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Vernon Sr. Citizen Center, Meals on Wheels or Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8pm at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Walter's family is grateful and overwhelmed by the love and care of Walter during his final years, Dr. Randall Schaeffner, the residents and volunteers and staff at Angels Care Home Health and Eagle Flats Village and the Crowell Nursing Center.
