Obituary

William Ray Spears, affectionately known as “Ray,” was born July 5, 1941, in Pike County, Arkansas, and passed away on May 5, 2026.

Ray later made his home in Vernon, Texas, where he built a life centered on hard work, dedication, and family. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Carol Spears, and together they shared many years of love and commitment.

He spent 40 years working at the local power plant, a reflection of his strong work ethic and reliability. Ray took great pride in providing for his family and was known as someone who could always be counted on.

Ray enjoyed his hobbies throughout his life, including flying his gyro copter, riding motorcycles, running his airboat, and spending time on four wheelers. These adventures brought him joy and reflected his love for freedom and the outdoors. He especially loved fishing and found peace in time spent on the water.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Spears of Vernon; two daughters, Brenda McCarty of Vernon and Tina Spears of Vernon; his grandchildren, Skye and Garret of Vernon, Cari and Cary Joe of Lockett, and Coleman and Gina of Vernon; nine great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Ann; granddaughter, Amber Huneycutt; his parents; as well as three sisters and two brothers.

Ray will be remembered for his strength, resilience, and the steady presence he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
